7/15/2025 The Problem with Being Human I'm reading an article called “The Problem with Being Human” and the first words that were said were “The problem with being human is that our minds are made for a certain purpose (staying alive).” and that first sentence hit me because it's 100% true. We always think about more, we always think about what our future would be like, or we stress about this girl/boy, or we feel like we work too hard and need a break from things. But behind all that is staying alive, getting food to eat, having a place to live, breathing air, making relationships with people, we live to live. Another thing that was said in the article was when the author said “All that thinking has an unfortunate by-product: ego.” and reading this i related to it alot, there's a big difference between having confidence within yourself and ego and somethings people think to high on them selfs which creates and ego. But the sad truth is that most of us can't live up t...

Is College Important

7/15/25 Is College Important                 “College is a place where you come to learn such things. But as higher education expands its reach, it’s increasingly hard to say what college is like and what college is for.”  This is interesting because some people think you don't need college so ill like to hear this other pov. “Many will be entering community colleges hoping to gain a useful qualification or to prepare themselves for a transfer to a four-year college.”  This surprised me because the author is talking like you can't gain useful qualifications from a community college. “As college grows more expensive, plenty of people want to know whether they’re getting a good return on their investment.” This is very true because I think like that sometimes.

The Vision of Words

7/10/2025 The Vision of Words Words. Words are way more than letters that make different sounds coming together to make something that people can use to talk to people or text people or even write a blog about literacy and words. But it is art, it is creation, it is evolution. Words are the reason people can do the things that we do today. There is so much meaning behind words that you might not even think about. Like the phrase “shut up” you can use those two words in soooo many different ways. From and girl flirting with a guy saying “shut up” after he said something, or if some is bothering you and you get annoyed by them and you scream at them to “shut up”, or even if ur just with ur friends and yall are all cracking jokes with each other and then one of them says “shut up” with funny intent behind it. Words are so powerful, there's a quote that everybody might know and it's “actions speak louder than words”. But if you really think about it, words are the reasons behin...

Black Don't Crack

Image
7/7/2025 Black Don't Crack I was reading an article called "Nobody Mean More to Me Than You and the Future Life of Willie Jordan" and the author talks about how black people have their own language, the first words of the text is "Black English is not exactly a linguistic buffalo" (Jordan) of the bat he is saying that the way that black people talk is not grammatically correct. Further on into the article he starts comparing what he calls standard English and Black English, and makes a guideline for Black English saying that Black English has a “minimal number of words for every idea” (Jordan). I came up with these terms because the whole text is about how the way black people talk and text is not grammatically correct and the type of words they use in sentences have different meanings but mean something else with context. The intent behind the author writing this is to talk about the differences of Black English to other ways that people speak. This text was us...

What Is Genre? ... I KNOW

Image
7/3/2025 Genre A genre is the creation of your own world, and what you write would end up adapting and reshaping the genre. Genre is a broad word but it has so much meaning to it. It's different categories of things that interest different people. Comedy, horror, love, fantasy, the list goes on. There are so many genres out there and there are so many things that branch off from it because it can apply to so many things. Music, movies, shows, books, paintings, dances, any form of literature or any form of art. and not only that genre can also be subject, certain that something is made about is called theoretical genre. for example things like social media, you tube feed, memes, talk shows, ect. You can kind of look at genres like a feeling, people use a specific genre when making something because they know it would reach a certain group of people or audience. You can also look at it like a language being used constantly in different situations. Genre can also be used for when wr...

David Blaine TED Talk, Air Under The Water

7/2/2025 David Blaine TED Talk, Air Under The Water      David Blaine's TED talk is a literacy narrative, first lets answer the question, what is a literacy narrative? A literacy narrative is kinda like an essay that emphasizes on someone's experiences with different forms of literacy and how those experiences effect/impact their life. Going back to David Blaine in his TED talk he was talking about the life changing time when he was tried to go as long as he could with out breathing under water and one of the things that stuck out to me during his TED talk was when he was talking about all the ways he tried to make the illusion that he was holding his breath under water. Until he just decided to do it. He said that he "started researching pearl divers", pearl divers go into depths of water and can hold their breath for up to 4 minutes. He did research on them to learn how they hold their breaths for so long so that he can perform the stunt that he was literally dying ...
