I chose Carnegie Mellon University 2024 Commercial, this ad stood out to me because in every sentence it was saying the word we showing that their school is all about community. And also there were a lot of different types of people in the ad; different genders, different races, different types of students studying/doing different things. It shows that the school has a variety of things for all types of people, so wherever you are or whatever you're interested in then that school would be good for you. They start off the ad by asking “what if” questions, questions that lots of people might have and might want answers to, and while they ask a question they show a clip of people/students from the school doing things that can help answer those questions. What they are doing with every clip is showing the watcher of the ad all the things they can do and how the watcher can leave an impact on the world if they join. Alongside asking the “what if” questions and at the end they said “we explore what's next and redefine what's possible, where what if becomes what's next.” Basically what this means is that in this school they do things that other schools don't. Not only that but they are saying that when you join the school you would learn all the answers to the questions and would be curious for more because the school would not only expand your intelligence and understanding of something but it would also encourage and support curiosity.
In the Carnegie Mellon University ad it said “we” a lot when it came to what the college has and will accomplish. Doing this was a good way to pull people towards their college because words like ““We”, “us”, and “our” are inclusive words that show you consider yourself as part of the team. This creates a sense of unity and mutual collaboration. When you position yourself as a partner to your listeners or readers, they’ll be more receptive to what you’re talking about, since you’re working with them, not preaching to them or ordering them to do something." (CNBC) When you make someone feel like they are a part of a team or a special group they are more likely to feel accepted or want to be accepted and that is exactly what Carnegie Mellon University did in their ad. They said “We” a lot because they know that the person watching would feel more comfortable and connected to the college and that would help them make their decision for their college.
This ad is an ad for Carnegie Mellon University to influence people to apply and hopefully commit to their school because of all the things that they offer. From the advertisement it looks like it mainly focuses on inventions, and what I mean by that is in the video they kept talking about creating new inventions. They showed people building planes, people in lab coats doing lab stuff, ect. I think they were trying to target people who want to create. Create things that can change the world and leave a massive impact on it. This ad was published in June 16, 2024 and during this time was some years after covid but it was also where lots of gen z kids wanted to go to college and wanted to do something more in their life. People these days make money off of new inventions and new creations that can either help the world and make life for humans easier or for people to use on a daily basis. Recently through out the years there have been a lot of futuristic inventions. There's robots created to go out into space to discover Mars. Also people are using and making Artificial Intelligence even better and more advanced. Also people are making electrical cars to use to put less emissions into the world. There are a lot more things that have happened during these times that have to do with evolutionary inventions and this school was really good at promoting the things that they have to offer and most of those things were revolutionary inventions that can impact the world.
I would give you a 10/10 for having all the proper dates and titles. As them as them being all tagged. I think you followed the rubric by using unique titles and including images in your writing as well. - Yvonne
